We purchased our unit in 2007 and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The Kulakane is a small, quiet building and hearing the waves at night and smelling the sea air is wonderful. I like mornings and watching the sun illuminate Molokai with the early morning sun highlighting the breaking waves as much as I do the fabulous sunsets.
We love being on Maui, in our condo, for a variety of reasons. The biggest is that both of our children live on island, one in Paia and one in Lahaina. They both met their spouses on Maui, were married here, and are setting down roots. No grandchildren yet, but hope springs eternal.
My perfect morning is an early walk, then enjoying coffee on the lanai, reading the morning paper, watching the turtles and waiting for the first whale sighting of the day. Throw in a rainbow and it can't get any better.
We do all of our dining on the lanai and, in fact, have no other table in the condo. It is well protected overhead during time of rain and shades can be lowered during the day if the sun is too intense. It's the perfect place for our poker games as well.
Both of us walk regularly and enjoy going south to Kaanapali via the "beach walk". For something a bit more strenuous, we do the airport hill (to Kapalua Airport) or the "Village Trails" in Kapalua.
With easy access to the ocean, directly in front of the Kulakane, a dip in the ocean, snorkeling, or kayaking is easy and in winter, when the "surf's up", you can watch surfers or try kayak surfing (still learning this sport and really need a better kayak than I have).
Always look forward to Friday night "pupu parties" at the pool (potluck) and visiting with all the returning and new guests. Guests come back year after year for a reason...some being the charms of Maui and some being the Kulakane itself.
Aloha,
John & Carol David
