Unit 213

Gene and I live in Portland, Oregon. We first came to the Kulakane for our honeymoon in 1987 and that makes this our honeymoon home. We loved Hawaii and returned often, to The Kulakane and to other properties and islands. We kept coming back to the Kulakane as our favorite and. finally, we bought our own home here. We love it and treasure our weeks in Maui every year. Gene is a retired health educator and I own a real estate brokerage in Portland where we help people buy and sell homes every day.

What we love most is that our condo is right on the water, facing the ocean and steps away from a beach walk. We like being on the second floor for privacy and security and a more direct view of the water. We would not want to spend our precious days in Paradise anywhere but ocean/beach front. Why else be here? We visit the large resorts nearby for cocktails and dinner on occasion, and gladly return to our smaller, more intimate and ocean view condo that put us right on the water. The ocean proximity is what we come for first and foremost!

We also like to cook and to be at home, so the kitchen is fully equipped with all the useful and necessary tools. The lanai is our open-air living room. The view is awesome. We dine here, play games and read, work on our computers, and entertain friends. We never stop enjoying the ocean view & balmy breezes.

The grounds are well kept(although I miss the beautiful Japanese garden} The unit 213 is always clean and the utensils for cooking are more than adequate. However,the stove needs replacing. Debbie Reynolds is an excellent manager,and is vey helpful. As is Tony her partner. I have recommended the Kulakane to several friends. Hope to be back again next year

  The pool and decking area was still under construction but we could still easily access the beach area. A very short distance from the condo was a very nice beach park with snorkeling areas to easily access. We highly recommend this place and will be staying there again.

  My wife and I have stayed here before and had a wonderful time so we thought this would be a great stay again 6 years later. We did stay in a different condo this time (213) I was very displeased. Only a few prior to our stay we were informed of sea wall repair taking place during our stay. This was upsetting as finding other accommodations this late was near impossible. Upon arrival there was heavy machinery in the back by the pool obstructing our view. Beach access was also completely blocked. We were able to access the beach from next door and it turned out to not be that bad. We had one day of loud construction work and we’re unable to stay on our room due to loud noise. This was all not that big of deal as the noise was only for one day. The unit we stayed in was the problem. Some lights intermittently flicker and go on and off, the bathroom fan was broken, our sun shade was poorly mounted and fell several times, some outlets didn’t work, and the toilet would sometimes continuously run. All these things are minor by themselves but together was frusturating. At one point we brought up some issues. And we came back to our condo with door wide open and our valuables exposed while a man went back forth for tools or something. No warning or anything. The thing that is most mad was a railing being replaced on the second floor was taken out and left with caution tape where children could easily fall through. This experience left a bad taste in our mouth and we won’t stay here again. I will note that other units are much better.

  We had a great experience at Kulakane. Debbie Reynolds rocks at customer service. Her pictures of our unit were perfect. WYSISYG. I think we took more pictures from our Lanai than any other locations. We saw dozens of Humpback Whales. Several breaches. Classic views of flukes. One displayed continuous tail slapping behavior. Sea turtles fed within 10 yards of the seawall. One night I got a beautiful picture of the moon's reflection on the water between the palm trees. Everyone needs to do the Kulakane traditional "conch blowing" at sunset. Everyone we met were repeat visitors. We saved a ton of money by eating most meals using the full kitchen. 45 minutes before we checked out, Kulakane gave us a fond "Aloha" with a very bright full length double rainbow.

  Spent 6 wonderful nights at this great condo on the second level. A couple things that impressed me, besides being right on the beach and watching/hearing the waves all day & night, was the cleanliness of the unit. I always judge a place by their paper products too. Good T-paper and kleenex! While it was obvious to be an older unit, it was well maintained and contained everything we needed for a comfortable stay. If you plan to do much cooking, there is little counter space, but our style was minimal so we made it work. The view from the 2nd floor was beautiful, but it also seemed like the ground floor noise funneled up to our lanai based on the style of the building construction. However, it was never too annoying. Pool was quite small but there were a couple access points so one could easily swim in the ocean. All staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Great BBQ area and nice place to meet some of the other guests, many of whom came from our home state of Washington. Every unit is dependent on how the owner furnishes, but ours came with snorkeling equipment.....would stay away from Boss Frog if you need to rent. Driving the island was easy with lower limits than we have locally making it less stressful. Do take into consideration the maps that indicate the type of road you are driving on. There can be some extremely narrow, windy roads that only allow for one vehicle at a time.
  Would not hesitate to stay there again.

  This was our 5th time at this condo complex and we love it. This particular unit stays extra cool being on the 2nd floor with a shade tree on the land side of the building really helps. The proximity of this complex to the Farmer's Market grocery store and the Maui Fish Market is perfect. It is also very convenient for SUPing right from the room. The community of residents is welcoming and inclusive, and the management staff is awesome!

  Very nice and comfortable condo within short walking distance to shops and restaurants. My husband and I found the ealy morning garbage trucks and traffic noise loud as our units bedroom window was right across from the recycling and garbage cans.The lack of air conditioning wasn't a problem for us as the wind kept us cool. I like to swim but found I cut myself on the rocks a few times as the wind was up and caused the sand to churn up and make the visability poor. We drove to another beach which was not too far to swim and snorkle. the barbques were great, the grounds and laundry room where very clean and tidy. We found the carpets where a bit old so felt a bit grubby and the pillows on the bed weren't that good.We were so lucky to see two whales from the lanai which is unusual in November. The veiws and sunsets where fantasic and not a day would go by without seeing a husband and I thought the bill was reasonable.People looking for a laid back vacation,who happen to be heavy sleepers, would be happy with Kulekane.

The staff is friendly and professional, the property clean and well maintained and the view from the lanai was priceless.   The condo was clean and looked like the pictures. It was a great location and worked out well for 2 people. The only complaint is the website said has small beach, told by guests that it did in the past but waves have washed it away. I think the website should say that. There are beaches close by.   I am not a newcomer to the Kulakane, my husband and I stayed there for 21 years, after 6 years of not being able to come I did come again this year.
  Truly love Maui and the Kulakane, it feels very private.

It is always clean and the "girls" do a fantastic job of cleaning.Tthe Kulakane is fortunate in having the team of Debbie and Tony to be responsible for the management and upkeep of the place.

  Debbie was great to work with, she was always helpful and very responsive. The view from the condo is spectacular and it great to be able to swim and snorkel right from the condo.
  The owner may want to get their modem checked out, we had to reset it a couple times as the WiFi would stop every now and then but restarting it did the trick.
